What was the driving purpose for the consolidation?
The driving purpose for the consolidation of the four Texas State Technical College (TSTC) campus' into one TSTC is to “place more Texans” as valued contributing members of the state economy and to equip TSTC for the expansion and innovation of instructional services necessary to serve a broader set of needs for employers and communities across Texas. Combining the resources of TSTC provides significant opportunity to leverage the scale and scope of statewide operations. The consolidation will facilitate concentration and sharing of core skills, resources, and services statewide and provide operating efficiencies as well as brand quality and consistency.
When did Texas State Technical College officially consolidate its campuses to a singly accredited institution?
The official date for consolidation was July 10, 2015, 30 days after approval of TSTC’s consolidation request by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. While a significant portion of the consolidation is in effect at this time through implementation of a functional versus geographic organization, reassignment of leadership roles, alignment of curricula in the new TSTC catalog for all locations for fall 2015, and the creation of new processes and procedures documented in new or revised Statewide Operating Standards, much remains to be refined and extended. Much of this additional work will be completed by the end of the fall 2015 semester; however, a singly accredited TSTC will be a work in progress for some time to come.
Is the new TSTC still accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)? What about other specialized program accreditations?
Texas State Technical College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate degrees and certificates of completion. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges should be contacted only if there is evidence that appears to support TSTC's significant non-compliance with a requirement or standard related to accreditation. Normal inquiries about TSTC, such as admission requirements, financial aid, educational programs, etc., should be addressed directly to Texas State Technical College and not to the Commission’s office.
Some specialized programs at Texas State Technical Colleges are also accredited by specialized accrediting bodies and those accreditation's will continue under single accreditation.
Who will be the president of the new College and what will it be called?
Under single accreditation, the Chief Executive Officer of TSTC will be Chancellor Mike Reeser. President positions are becoming Provosts and leadership titles for other locations may vary depending on size and scope.

Will the consolidation change admission requirements for TSTC students?
Single accreditation will not change the admission requirements which are listed under the Admissions link above. However, single accreditation will allow you to complete one admissions process and choose which TSTC campus to attend.
What tuition and fees will be charged to students in FY 2015 under the new singly accredited TSTC?
TSTC has updated the tuition and fee schedule which can be found in the 2015 Catalog & Student Handbook.
What will the impact of TSTC’s single accreditation be on current TSTC Waco, Marshall, Harlingen and West Texas students?
Single Accreditation has given TSTC a chance to review all of our process and procedures so that we can create the best experience for our students. As the days and months progress you may notice changes in our policies and practices which are meant to provide you the best services possible. We guarantee that you will still get the same great instruction from experienced faculty committed to their success.
If I am a current student do I need to reapply for admissions?
No, you will not need to reapply for admission as you have been automatically accepted for admission into the singly accredited TSTC.
I have been a student for a year now. Do I have to change my program now?
No, you don’t have to change your program, and all of the courses (or appropriate substitutes) will be offered for you to complete your current degree plan. However, if you’d like to change your catalog year to take advantage of curricular changes (such as reduction of credit hours) you may do so. You may refer to the 2015 Catalog & Student Handbook for updated curriculum. See your advisor or department chair for assistance.
Who will register me now?
The registration process will not change at this time, so your advisor or department chair can continue to assist you. For Spring 2016 registration we will be launching a new tool for you to utilize so watch your TSTC email for updates!
Will students have to travel between multiple campuses to complete their certifications and/or degrees?
No. If a program is offered at a location, it is offered in its entirety. However, if a student begins a program at a location and wishes to transfer to a different location where the program is also offered, they can do so without changing majors or worrying about transferring credits once the Office of the Registrar has been notified. Ability to transfer locations will depend on program availability and capacity at that location.
Do I need a new student ID?
New students will need to obtain a student ID, however current students will retain their current ID.
Will my transcript look different?
The only change to the transcript this time is the address listed at the top of the transcript, which shows Waco’s campus address. Please remember that you can request your transcript in person, online, or electronically
Will there be one Veterans Services Department for all of TSTC?
All offices will be operating as a single unit, including the Veterans Services Department, however each campus will continue to serve Veterans in the same capacity. Single accreditation will not change VA eligibility, housing allowance, or the processing of benefits.
What will happen to the Student Government Association? Will there be one for all of TSTC?
There will continue to be a Student Government Association at each campus to work on local issues, and the student body Presidents from each campus will now form a “Statewide Executive Council” to work specifically on college-wide issues.
What will happen to my Phi Theta Kappa chapter? Will there be one for all of TSTC?
Your Phi Theta Kappa chapter will remain the same. There will continue to be one at each campus.
Does Single Accreditation affect accommodations for students with disabilities?
No. Classroom accommodations will still be afforded to all qualified students with disabilities.
Does Single Accreditation affect counseling and support services?
Counseling and support services will continue to be available to all current students.
Does Single Accreditation affect health services?
Health services will continue to be available to all current students.
How does Single Accreditation affect my financial aid?
You will not see a difference in the financial aid you receive. You will continue to meet with financial aid representatives at the college you attend and they will be able to assist you as they have in the past. You will be able to submit documents to any TSTC campus or to receive answers to your questions at any of our locations.
Do I have to do anything to make sure my financial aid is still in place?
If you have listed Waco’s code of 003634 on your FAFSA and completed any additional steps requested by Financial Aid you are ready to go for the Fall of 2015. You should always check WebAdvisor to view a copy of your award letter or to find out if you are missing any documents. You will also have the option to accept or reject your student loans in WebAdvisor. If you have any specific questions please call the Financial Aid office at the campus you plan on attending!
Will all my scholarships transfer to another TSTC campus?
In most cases scholarships can be transferred from one campus to another. However, some scholarships are only available to students attending a certain campus. In the event that you lose a scholarship if you transfer from one campus to another, we will attempt to find other funds to assist you.
Why do I have to add the Waco code on my FAFSA if I am attending another location?
Since our colleges have been combined into one TSTC, we are only able to award aid using one school code and Waco’s was selected because it is the main campus. The Department of Education will be removing the school codes for the other campuses at a later date.
I should graduate at the end of the Fall 2015 semester. What will my diploma say? Will it say that I earned my degree at West Texas or just TSTC?
You will earn your degree from Texas State Technical College. Diploma information regarding program, student name and degree will not change.
Will graduations still be held locally at each campus?
Yes. All four primary campuses locations will continue to hold graduation ceremonies. As a graduate you will have the choice of where you would like to participate in the graduation ceremony. Please visit the graduation site in the Portal for more information.
Where do I go if I have a complaint?
Most questions or complaints can be addressed through routine college channels. If additional assistance is needed, students are encouraged to file a formal written complaint. Students can contact their respective Compact with Texans Representative for further guidance.
Will there be one Spring Break for ALL of TSTC?
A common academic calendar has been developed for TSTC, however the dates for Spring Break will be set by each campus.
As a faculty member, I advise students on the courses they need to take to complete their program. If a student started a program in the Spring 2015 semester, do we continue to offer those courses in the old award even though the new award doesn’t contain some of those courses?
TSTC must “teach out” its existing awards. If students choose to not change majors, we will either 1) offer the courses in the 2014-2015 curriculum or 2) or offer courses that are in the new award that may be substituted for credit for the old award.
How does the singly accredited college affect the certificates and/or degrees earned by students?
Not at all. All TSTC certificates and degrees are approved by SACSCOC and included in TSTC’s THECB inventory, just as they were before.
Will the technical course content be identical at every campus?
Yes. TSTC uses a single course inventory. A course at one location shares the same learning outcomes, credit hours, and contact hours as the same course at all locations.
Will there be regional program advisory committees?
Yes. For programs offered at multiple locations, representatives from regional committees may be asked to also serve on a select, statewide committee.
