Purpose Statement

Our purpose is to support the mission of TSTC Harlingen by providing and maintaining an efficient and high quality support services program by providing special populations students with a network of services to make the attainment of their educational goals accessible, including accommodations for students with disabilities, child care services, referrals to community agencies, counseling, tutoring, workshops and seminars for the targeted qualified disabled, single parent, non-traditional, and educationally or economically disadvantage student.

 

General Information

The Support Services Office reflects TSTC Harlingen's commitment to meeting the special needs of individual students. This office coordinates with community assistance programs and serves as a resource for Special Population Students. Special Population community of students is defined as:

  • Qualified Single Parents;
  • Displaced Homemakers;
  • Single Expectant Mothers;
  • Students Pursuing a Non-Traditional Program of Study; and.
  • Qualified Disabled Students.

Support Services also provides awareness and sensitivity training for faculty and staff regarding gender equity and disability-related issues.

Reasonable accommodations are provided for students with physical, learning or emotional disabilities. Each student, after providing appropriate documentation, is evaluated individually to determine suitable accommodations. Some of the types of accommodations which may be provided include: tape recorders, extended test time, alternate testing sites, scribes, interpreters, note takers, and the use of special adaptive equipment.
