Gala

We invite you to attend Noche de Gala and join this cause to honor U.S. Representative Rubén Hinojosa. The Long Foundation will once again match up to $100,000 of the contributions raised by our community.

While these dollars represent a significant accomplishment, the college and its benefactors must continually strive to meet and exceed these milestones to keep pace with the rising costs of higher education. Surveys indicate that more than one-half of our students live at or below the poverty level. In fact, 88 percent of our students – most of whom are Hispanic – must receive some form of financial aid to work toward a diploma that will guarantee a rewarding career. TSTC Harlingen accepts all qualified students and many of our students represent the first generation in their family to advance beyond high school.

All funds will be awarded during the 2011-2012 academic year. All scholarship recipients must be U.S. citizens and experience verifiable financial need as determined by their aid application to the U.S. Department of Education.

Contact Angie Gonzalez at (956) 364-4500 or email at: angie.gonzalez@harlingen.tstc.edu for more information or to become a Noche De Gala sponsor.

The generosity of private citizens and businesses provides more than $200,000 in scholarships to many students at Texas State Technical College Harlingen each year thanks to Noche de Gala.

Joe and Teresa Long of Austin established a scholarship fund ten years ago at TSTC. The project rapidly grew when, two years later, the Longs increased their contribution and challenged the college and the communities it serves to match their annual donation. As a result, more than $1 million in scholarships from this fund have supported TSTC students during the past ten years.
