Message from the President
As we navigate through difficult economic times and ever increasing global competition, our continued achievements rest on the same foundation laid in 2008. Student success comes from our focus on connecting students to industry needs, on developing partnerships with the community, and on increasing collaboration with other higher education institutions. These elements strengthen our college leadership and the resolve of our entire college community to bring expanded opportunities for students and grow the Texas economy. The foundation of our continued successes rests on our core values:
Innovation – create and implement new ideas and methods;
Responsiveness – provide appropriate programs and services in a proactive, flexible, and timely manner;
Leadership – develop the visions and strategies for a desired future, and empower people to achieve;
Excellence – achieve the highest quality in all we do;
Collaboration – work cooperatively with other organizations and within our own system;
Accountability – measure our performance and use the results for continuous improvement;
Stewardship – ensure our programs and services add value to our students and all stakeholders;
Global economic competition and reduced state funding challenge us. But, they also bring opportunities for our students, faculty, support staff and administrators. The opportunities challenge us to explore continuous improvements involving innovative education delivery systems, multi-purpose laboratory designs, and hands-on projects. In these ways we can improve student skills coupled with critical thinking. In spite of an economic slump, our graduate placement rate in technical disciplines continues to exceed 90 percent. But those graduates, along with our academic students, can continue with higher education and build stronger futures.
The opening of the new University Articulation and Career Center on the TSTC campus symbolizes our commitment to quality in our academic programs. The Center will be the home for several public and private universities that will facilitate TSTC academic transfers to world-class bachelor degree programs. Those in the community that wish to continue their education to higher levels can now earn master and doctoral degrees without leaving their home.
I invite visitors – prospective students, parents, existing students, alumni, scholarship donors, businesses and industries, and our employees – to learn of our successes by studying our Annual Report; learn of our programs by navigating our Web site. Finally, allow us to help you shape your future. Together, our ideas and energy will go far. Together, we can succeed!
Dr. Cesar Maldonado, P.E.
