F.A.Q.'s
How do I get into this advisement program?
Just come see us! Even if you don't fall into one of our three categories, we'll be more than happy to help! If you do fall into one of our categories, it will just be a matter of filling out some contact information sheets and talking to us about your future.
How long do I stay with this advisor?
Here's a good question. Answer: Depends on your situation.
Typcially, if you are coming to us as a First-time-in-college student, then we will work with you until you get admitted and begin your program. From there, you will fall under your program's advisors. BUT..worry not. We will be popping our heads in every so often to see how things are progressing. Once you graduate, you are more than welcome to come back and join us so we can help you pursue a Bachelors.
Allied health students (Surgical Technology or Dental Hygiene) will work with us until you apply and get admitted into your program. We will help you meet all the requirements and pre-requisites for admission, then off you go...right into the hands of your future instructors! Like every other student, you are more than welcome to join us again to assist in pursuing a Bachelors.
Students who have already recieved their Associates Degree or Certificate are with us until they are either comfortable enough to start at the university of their choice, or have completed all their possible transfer courses at TSTC. I know it will be tough to leave us...but don't worry, we'll still be with you in spirit.
Do you help me with Finanical Aid?
We sure do! We attend financial aid workshops just about every semester, so we can assist you one-on-one, in our computer lab. We do recommend that you visit the Financial Aid Office first, and ask an Officer there to assist you first. They will ALWAYS have the most up-to-date information and will know more options for your situation. Click here to visit the Financial Aid site.
Where can I find information on Housing?
You can pick our brains! Or...you can visit the Housing website by clicking here. From that website, you can get their contact information and application. All dorms are located on the South side of Loop 499.
Are there any tutoring services available?
Totally! If we offered a Basket-Weaving course...we'd have a tutor for it! Seriously though, our tutors are excellent at what they do. One of our basic requirements is that they show mastery of that subject by requiring that they recieve an "A" in that particular subject. Tutoring information can be found here. Keep in mind, even if you don't see the subject that you need tutoring in, give us a call and we will exhaust all of our resources to find you one! Is that customer service or what?!?
What if I want to drop a class?
Don't. It's a lengthy process that will give you a huge headache so you might as well just study and finish the course. Just kiddin'.
We don't recommend that you drop a course unless it is absolutely necessary. It is very important that you understand the consequences of dropping a class. BEFORE YOU DROP, talk with an advisor.
Where can I go to get counseling?
Counseling is housed in the Student Services Building (SS) right next to the Financial Aid Office. Click here for more information.
Are my transcripts/records confidential?
Yes. TSTC policy follows FERPA guidelines that will not allow any information to be released unless the student gives permission. It would be easier to rob Fort Knox.
Where can I go to get a transcript?
For an "unofficial" transcript, you can log on to your WebAdvisor Account, click here. For an "Official" transcript, please visit the Admissions Office located in the Student Services Building (SS).
Where can I get student organization information?
TSTC has over 30 student organizations on campus! Find more information on it here, or visit the Student Government Association (SGA) in SC-122, right across from the Cafeteria!
