Machining Technology
With the increase in the number of Maquiladoras in South Texas, as well as the increase in manufacturing state-wide, the need for Moldmakers and Toolmakers has increased dramatically.
This curriculum prepares students for gainful employment in machine shops, tool and die, and plastic injection molding shops. Major emphasis is placed on the construction and repair of plastic injection molds and stamping dies.
Individuals in the Machining Technology fabricate and/or repair metal products using a variety of metalworking equipment and processes. Students enrolled in the Machine shop will learn the skills needed to enter the work force as an entry level machinist. This involves learning the basic skills and machining techniques needed to operate the following machines: horizontal and vertical mills, engine lathes, drill press, shaper, surface and pedestal grinders; and the programming and operation of Computer Aided Machines such as the CNC mills and lathes Students also learn related skills such as precision measurement, blueprint reading, and the heat treatment of metals. |
