The following are tasks that a graduate of the Dental Assistant program will be able to perform:

• Prepares patient
  • Takes and records medical and dental histories and vital signs of patient
  • Records treatment information in patient records
• Sets up exam rooms
• Sterilizes and disinfects instruments
• Sets up instrument trays
• Assists dentist during dental procedures
• Assists dentist in management of medical and dental emergencies
• Exposes dental diagnostic x-rays 
• Processes dental x-rays
• Takes teeth impressions for diagnosis
• Pours molds and fabricates temporary crowns
• Provides postoperative instructions prescribe by dentist
• Can provide oral health counseling, and nutritional counseling
• Uses office management skills
• Texas State Requirements:
• Registered Dental Assistant (RDA)
