Professional Development
One of the primary purposes of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) is to be a resource for faculty to learn new concepts for learning and professional development. Throughout the semester the CETL host a variety of professional development sessions, and courses (face to face and/or online).

Instructor Level Certification (ILC) Course
The ILC is a full semester course for new faculty and teaching lab assistants. This
competency/performance-based course is designed to provide training for the new instructor so he/she:
- Acquire and demonstrate the teaching competencies necessary to become successful as an Instructor.
- For experienced instructors new to TSTC, the ILC course provides a review of previously acquired teaching skills as well as an orientation to policies and procedures unique to TSTC.
- Individuals recruited from industry, it provides ground work of information, resources, and practice teaching and learning using pedagogy and andragogy methods, use of instructional technology, and class management.
- Serves to familiarize new faculty and teaching lab assistants with TSTC’s administrative procedures, responsibilities, and organizational structure.
This course is delivered as a “hybrid” course with face-to face (F2F) meetings and delivering of content via the college’s learning management system (LMS).

Department Chair (DC) Course
Department chairs play a key role at TSTC. The purpose of this course is to provide training and information to develop new department chairs, assistant department chairs, or refresh current department chairs to their roles and responsibilities. This course is delivered as a “hybrid” course with F2F meetings and delivering of content via the college’s LMS.

Copyright Course
This course provides faculty with an introductory foundation to copyright law, fair use, and the copyright/licensing issues involved in using a wide variety of materials protected by copyright. This course is a self-paced full on-line course using the college’s LMS. Link: My Courses
Webinars and Other Professional Development Activities
The CETL provides professional development activities and events using technology to deliver these sessions. Online Webinars, teleconferences, and other events are provided in the CETL. The CETL holds a variety of resources covering many topics of pedagogy and andragogy, and delivering online instruction for faculty to view. The CETL is constantly updating their resources to provide faculty with current resources to assist them in their professional development.
