Swine Influenza Information
April 28, 2009 11:09 AM
The TSTC Student Services Department, in conjunction with state and local health departments are requesting that you join us in closely monitoring the nationwide Swine Flu Public Health Emergency. TSTC administrators are monitoring local and state health advisory updates and will continue to monitor the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Health Advisories for updates as well.
Precautions for the swine flu are the same as those for the prevention of the spread of germs during an annual flu season:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you sneeze – and throw the tissue in the trash – or cough into your sleeve.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth; germs spread this way.
- Try to stay in good general health. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.
- Avoid close contact with sick people.
The symptoms of swine flu in people are similar to the symptoms of regular human flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. The CDC recommends that, if you have flu symptoms, you stay at home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
