Want to get a head start in preparing for high school and college mathematics?

Students in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade who want to strengthen their math skills can take advantage of the TSTC Summer Math Academy. This 30-hour math academy will help students succeed in future math courses. The math academy will introduce students to a number of concepts, which they can apply to everyday life.

Math Academy (Part I) Objectives:

 Review of real numbers and their properties

 Exponents and radicals

 Polynomials and special products

 Factoring

 Rational expressions

Upon completion of Math Academy

Part I, students should be able to:

 Evaluate algebraic expressions

 Use the basic rules and properties of algebra

 Use the properties of exponents

 Use the properties of radicals

 Simplify and combine radicals

 Rationalize the denominator and numerator

 Write polynomial in standard form

 Add, subtract, and multiply polynomials

Math Academy (Part II) Objectives:

 Functions and their graphs

 Polynomial functions of higher degree

 Rational functions

 Exponential and logarithmic functions

Upon completion of Math Academy

Part II, students should be able to:

 Solve quadratic equations by factoring, square

roots, completing the square, and use of the

quadratic formula

 Determine whether a given relation is a function

 Find the domain and range of a given function

 Use the synthetic division to divide polynomial

 Use synthetic division to find the zeros of a

polynomial

 Use the properties of logarithms to evaluate to

rewrite logarithmic expressions

 Solve exponential and logarithmic equations

$250.00 per student for each part

$400.00 per student if registered for both parts.
