International Program

Our mission is to combine the academic strengths of Texas State Technical College-Harlingen with the professional, cultural, and environmental resources of Mexico/ Canada to create customized training programs for international students and professionals. We currently manage a variety of customized programs that combine intensive English language training with subjects and activities designed to match the interest and needs of each of our clients to TSTC Harlingen's high skilled, high demand occupations.

Overview

The International Program (IP) staff promotes the highest quality of service both in the administrative and academic sectors. IP offers courses from ESL to TSTC Harlingen's 36 high skilled, high demand occupations. Classes will also be available for Distance Learning.

IP and its staff are courteous and ready to serve current and potential students. Our personnel will diligently guide individuals from admission requirments to course recommendations and compliance with the laws set forth by the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), the U.S. Department of State (DOS), and other government agencies that govern international students in the U.S. Our determination is complete student satisfaction.

The IP uniqulely reflects TSTC Harlingen's partnership outreach efforts and commitment to support existing and relocating business in industry.

What are my admission requirements?

International students must follow regular admission requirements as well as other immigration requirements. International student applicants should complete all admissions requirements at least 90-days prior to the expected entry date. International Students must:

• Complete an Admissions Application http://www.harlingen.tstc.edu/Admissions/index.aspx
• Submit official transcripts from secondary schools through post-secondary work previously completed, whether taken in a foreign country or in the United States. (Foreign transcripts must be translated into English and must be certified by the Ministry of Education or comparable agency in the student’s respective country. )
• Submit official TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) scores

• 550 on paper exam
• 213 on a computer-based exam
• Exemptions: TOEFL exam exemption for students from: Australia, England, Ireland, Philippines, Jamaica, Trinidad, New Zealand, and Canada (west of Ontario). French is the native language east of Quebec, in part of Nova Scotia, and New Brunsfield.

• Submit Affidavit of Support
  • Proof of ability to meet personal and academic expenses. A minimum of $12,000 (U.S.) is currently required to meet expenses.
  • Valid financial support documents (less than one year old from date of enrollment) must indicate the minimum U.S. dollar amount required by TSTC Harlingen. The required minimum is subject to change without notice.
